Robin Jaspert spoke with Ilan Pappé about his book "The Forgotten Palestinians."
For more than 60 years, hundreds of thousands of Palestinians have lived as Israeli citizens within the borders of the state established at the end of the 1948 conflict.

The conversation was conducted in German, with Ilan Pappé's answers in English.

Occupying a precarious middle ground between the Jewish citizens of Israel and the dispossessed Palestinians in the West Bank and Gaza Strip, Israeli Palestinians have developed an extremely complex relationship with the land they call home; however, in the countless discussions about the Israeli-Palestinian problem, their experiences are often overlooked and forgotten. In this book, historian Ilan Pappé examines the fate of Israeli Palestinians under Jewish rule and what their lives reveal about both Israel's attitude toward minorities and the attitude of Palestinians toward the Jewish state. Drawing on extensive archival and interview material, Pappé analyzes the Israeli state's policies toward its Palestinian citizens, identifying discrimination in the areas of housing, education, and civil rights. The highly readable book, *The Forgotten Palestinians*, brings a new and much-needed perspective to the Israeli-Palestinian debate.
